Assistive Technologies

For our lab today, we had to choose three different types of assistive technology tools. The first one that I choose was the on screen keyboard. This would be helpful for students who have trouble typing on the keyboard or only have a little movement in their hands. As you can see from the picture on the left, it was the same exact keyboard as we use but on the computer so all you need to do is click what letters you want to use.

In my second assistive technology tool, I use the magnifier. This is a tool that has half of the screen as the normal size while the other half is zoomed in. This could be used for kids who have trouble using the computer because the text size is so small. When you use the magnifier you can choose what size you want the screen to be magnified and what sized of the screen stays the same.

In my third assistive technology tool, I explored using sticky keys or other things that might make it easier to use the keyboard. This could be helpful for students because they can use shortcuts on the keyboard so that it is easier to do different things for the computer. For the sticky keys you can control what they do and where they are located. This will make it a lot easier for students who have trouble using the keyboard to use the computer.

Teaching as My Future

So for my w200 class we had to see how we had progressed in our goals. I realized that I was slacking on my blog so I decided to write a post. The past week I went home for thanksgiving break! This was the first time that I have been home since August 25th. I was really glad to be home but it was somewhat strange to not be at IU. On Monday and Tuesday I went to my mother's school to help with anything that I could. While I was at the school, I help Alicia's class make their thanksgiving costumes. I helped the kids make pilgrims and native Americans. As I was telling the students what to do I realized how much I loved being at school and helping my mom and the other teachers. This may sound lame but I am so excited for when I have my own classroom. I will be able to create different activities using the all the things that I have learned in school. It will be my own classroom, my students, and my ideas. I cannot wait.

The past week, I realized that teaching is and will be what I want to do with the rest of my life. I could not imagine myself doing anything else. I get so happy when I see those kids faces so happy when they get to make their own pilgrim costume. I will be teaching the future and inspiring them to be whoever they want to be. There is nothing better than that.
